Camping Chairs

Ever since the human race largely abandoned it's nomadic, hunting and gathering lifestyle, people have been fascinated with the great outdoors. Perhaps it's because a tiny part of all of us misses nature and it's ways, something left over from our primitive past. What ever the reason, recreational hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, and all other nature based, outdoor activities have gained huge popularity. But we are not usually satisfied with what nature provides. It seems part of being human is the wish to alter our surroundings to best facilitate our comfort. One of our favorite ways to alter an area is to create a comfortable place to sit. When camping, it's pretty much impossible (and kind of defeats the point) to alter the forest to fit our needs. While we can't change the forest, we can certainly bring things with us to make ourselves more comfortable. One of the more common comfort items brought along on many camping trips are camping chairs.

What are Camping Chairs?

Camping chairs are a specialized form of folding chair made specifically for camping. What sets camping chairs apart is the quality of their build, the materials used, and often the overall look and design. The average camping chair will consist of a metal frame with an X shaped hinge that allows the chair to be folded upon itself. Materials can vary widely, but most camp chairs of quality will feature durable materials such a nylon and even Kevlar! Camping chairs are also made to be sturdier than your average outdoor folding chair. Not only are the materials usually triple and even quadruple stitched, but the frames of the chairs themselves can even be made of high grade metals such as titanium.

Types of Camping Chairs

Because of the folding chair's simple design, camping chairs have been modified into a number of different, specialized forms. Just like all the different kinds of chairs available to buy for the home, camping chairs also come in a wide variety of styles. Here is a short list of some of the more common types of camping chair:

• The standard camping chair is exactly what you think it is. This is the usual, low cost, no frills option that most beginning campers will choose. While these chairs may lack some of the neat features of other camping chairs, they should by no means be ignored. The simple, sturdy construction, light weight, and low cost of these camping chairs can be a godsend for the frugal camper. These chairs are also a great buy for those with large families, or anybody who wants to introduce somebody to camping while also providing them a comfortable place to sit.

• Backpack camping chairs are a very clever form of camping chair. This version of camping chair will be either a functioning backpack that can be converted into a chair, or a camping chair with a removable backpack. The point of these camp chairs is to kill two birds with one stone, by providing a backpack and a place to sit. These camping chairs are exceedingly popular among hikers and other highly mobile camping enthusiasts as carrying the backpack and camping chair becomes one chore!

• Because the final "type" of camping chair can provide such a large, varying number of features, we will simply call them high end camping chairs. What sets these camping chairs apart from all others is the staggering number of different addons they can feature, to say nothing of their build quality. These camp chairs will at the very least include cup holders, but may also feature amenities such as cooler attachments, extend able foot rests, overhead shade, small detachable tables, and premium seat cushions. These camping chairs are best for the non-mobile camper, as all the features and upper end materials can increase the chair's weight considerably. This increase in weight can make them quite impractical for hiking and other, less sedentary camping excursions.
